Columbia Leaf SMaSH

When you first start going hops I think its best to make a smash beer with them to see what you are going to get from that hop. Columbia has been a hop that I have been growing for 4 yeast now and this year was the first year that I got more than .5 oz from. As I have never brewed with Columbia hops why not make a smash beer with them. This is a small batch so 1.25 gallons. Here is the recipe I used:

2 LBs 4 oz 2-Row

.25 Columbia @ 60mins

.25 Columbia @ 30mins

.25 Columbia @ 10mins

.25 Columbia @ 5mins

US-05 Yeast

Finished ABV was 7.51%

Color: Yellow hazy

Smell: Hoppy citrus sweet malt. More lemon citrus than the Lemondrop version

Taste: Lemon bitterness. Needs more malt to cut that Lemon citrus bitterness

Overall: Not bad. I think the Lemon citrus is good but needs more malt to help it out. The aftertaste of the citrus bitterness is overpowering. This should be what the lemondrop should taste like.
