Chinook Leaf SMaSH All Grain

Chinook hops are pine like and spicy with robust flavors of grapefruit. From the chinook homebrews I have made I get more citrus than spice. I grow Chinook hops so I wanted to make 2 small batch beers. One using pellets and one using my leaf hops. With the AA% being over 10 on Chinook I wanted to add a little more backbone to the smash beers. This will be the leaf version. Here is the recipe I used. 1.25 gallons into the fermenter

2-1/2 LBs 2-Row

.25 oz Chinook 30 mins

.25 oz Chinook 10 mins

.25 oz Chinook 5 mins

7.3% ABV

Color: Bright yellow hazy

Smell: Lemon grass. Almost like lemondrop hops.

Taste: Lemon grass and lemon juice sour like a grapefruit. A hint of sweetness from the malt

Overall: Very good homebrew. I think my leaf hops are on point with the pellets so I wouldnt by anymore pellets.

Tasting 2

Color: Orange yellow. I think the orange color is from the oils in the leaf hops

Smell: Sweet spice(low). No citrus. Earthy(from the leaf hops?)

Taste: Thin body. Lemon citrus with a hint of spice in the back. Its like hop water. I do think this goes back tot he pellet version. I think chinook needs more with it. More malt or more hops.

Overall: Its ok. It needs more body. He needs more malt or hops. I think if you added more hops it would last a little longer but more malt or malts would help this homebrew.
