Jester Hops with Maris Otter Malt
With this small batch brew we wanted to see how Jester hops played Maris Otter Malt. Also in this test batch we wanted to see if carbonation drops would play a roll in the smell and taste of the beer.
Recipe
2 LBS 12 oz Maris Otter Malt
.39 oz Jester 30 mins
.29 oz Jester 5 mins
.32 oz Jester Dry Hop
Yeast US-05(3 grams)
Smell some passion fruit and light. Not as much Maris Otter grain smell vs the other SMaSH beers we have made with Maris Otter.
Taste: We are getting more of that Maris Otter grain out of the taste. Also a lychee taste. We are not sure if the lychee taste is from us saying it or not. Maybe a little too much bitterness in this beer. Might want to drop the hops back or move them to later in the boil to reduce the bitterness of this beer.
Carbonation drops: I think the bottle with 1 drop has a better smell then the bottle with 2 carbonation drops. The bottle that had 1 drop in it had a small white head. The one with 2 drops didnt have a head. Carbonation in the bottle that had only had 1 drop is good. We couldnt tell the difference from 1 drop to 2 drops.
